The Riverwalk That Was in West Warwick

The West Warwick RiverWalk

With a long weekend I was able to get in a walk at the West Warwick Riverwalk along the Royal Mills today. The mills were originally built in 1890 and filled with a lot of history and was one of the world's busiest hydro-powered cotton mills for over 30 years. Many mills like this one have been turned into condo units.

It had not been kept us since the great floods of 2010 in Rhode Island.

And you could not finish the path, either.

Such a shame for the community that lives at the Royal Mills not being able to walk along the entire path or the townspeople who came to walk daily.

Will they be able to repair the damages the massive floods of 2010 did to this riverwalk? (This last link is a video of the flooding when it happened about a mile from the riverwalk.)

Update: August 2, 2014 - I've been contacted by the West Warwick Jaycees that a group is forming called "Friends of the Arboretum and Riverwalk". Contact me for more information.

  2. Thanks Brenda, I sure hope someone will see this that can maybe find why it hasn't been fixed yet. It was such a great walk when you could walk all the way through and when it was kept it - it was beautiful.

  3. Great pictures. There is an old cotton mill near to where I live and it has been many things over the years. Now it is a unique mall with specialty shops. My knitting group meets there on Tuesdays.

  5. This Walk was was begun and completed during my tenure on the WW Town Council. It was a vision of then Town Manager Wolfgang Bauer. It was created in great part from the efforts of State Representative Richard fleury. I'm saddened to see this in the state that is currently in. The whole state of affairs says much about the current leadership in the town of West Warwick.

    1. It is Patsy, I sure hope the town or state can do something or maybe some volunteers? I would give some hours to help.
