Are The Trees Getting Sick?

Sick Trees or Nature Doing It's Thing?

Many of the trees on the way to my early morning walk looked like this. 

Are they sick? Is something attacking them?

 They almost look like large spider webs. Some "webs" in the trees were very large. Most of the "webs" seemed to appear where there was not much sun for the trees. Maybe gypsy moths are back?
