The Infamous Restaurant That Sandy Swept Into

 Days Later We Had Snow

The last leg of the journey checking the damage from Sandy in the Southern Rhode Island area took us to the infamous restaurant, the Coast Guard House. They always seem to get hit from ocean storms. This time it was totally damaged from the storm.

A couple of days later we had our first snow. Snow before Thanksgiving but at least it was not before Halloween like last year.

Did you receive snow yet in your area?

Since blogging about the Coast Guard House they have provided updates on Twitter to me:

Point Judith After Sandy Came To Visit

very old tree at Point Judith
This tree was found at edge of ocean and appeared to be very old

Pt Judith wall
The wall once was very neatly packed with rocks

The parking lot - we were shocked to see a tiny parking lot after #Sandy

The parking lot looked like the moon

You  can see here how small the parking lot became

Pt Judith Cabana that was
The gazebo that once held many weddings and special events - No longer

The Point Judith area was especially hit hard and it was amazing to see how much of the parking lot was now all covered by large rocks. It felt like you were walking on the moon crossing the parking lot via foot. You can tell the difference from my visit in June to the Point Judith area how the wall once looked. You can read more about the history of Point Judith here.

Are you still seeing things from Sandy's superstorm?

Even this bird seemed in awe of the changing coastline from Sandy

I had a chance of the weekend to visit the shoreline of RI. Some coastal areas were still closed off by the National Guard but I was able to see quite the damage caused by Sandy's storm. It really is something to see for yourself vs. watching on TV. If you view this photo from the arial taken prior to Sandy you will see how the coastline has changed.
You can also see my photos from being on the same dock back in July.
I have so many photos from the coastline from this past weekend that I will have to do another post soon to share the rest from the Point Judith area.

Do you still see damage from the storm in your area?

Sandy Visited The River Walk Where March Floods Did Major Damage

I wanted to go for a walk Saturday to get away from the computer. It was a beautiful Fall day and I was headed to the track but a football game was being played. So I went to the river walk. I was in awe by the scenes I found there. Between the beautiful colors still around the dam you could also see  damage Sandy brought to it. Some of the damage you see here was caused by the March Floods from 2+ years now in Rhode Island. But many more trees were down from Sandy.

It was so beautiful and pristine when this walk was first built not that long ago. It is such a shame to see it with downed trees and not being worked on. Maybe some volunteers could come together and begin a clean-up.  We are forecast to get more heavy rains and wind this upcoming week. I sure hope the folks still reeling from Sandy can be spared this dreaded forecast.

Did your area get many trees down from Sandy's path?

The day ended with more heavy rain
We were very fortunate away from the coast for the most part as others did lose power and had trees fall on their property from Hurricane Sandy. We did get more heavy rains and thunder but luckily there was a Weather Channel  weatherman nearby who answered me via a tweet as an alert came through but wasn't clear about the severeness of the impending thunderstorm:

You may see other storm photos at The Providence Journal Website from throughout the area and along the coastline that was hit hard.
You can also check out their arial shots just in too from the RI Dot.

My thoughts go out to those hit in NY and NJ and other areas severally affected by Sandy's destructive path.
